Julian Cochran

Julian Cochran extended the grand tradition of pianist-composers whose lineage runs deeply through East and West European musical history—from the palette mastery of Ravel and Debussy to the dramatic Russian school of Balakirev and Rachmaninoff. The music of these composers is fundamentally shaped by a profound knowledge of the piano’s capabilities. Cochran’s music frequently exudes aesthetic characteristics of Eastern European folk music, orientalist themes and a dramatic intensity and power rare in this era.

Robert Bremner Publishing is grateful to the Saint Petersburg State Orchestra, the Saint Petersburg Youth Orchestra, the Pan-European Philharmonia, the laureates of the International Cochran Music Festivals from 2015 to 2026, and all who took part in the recordings, for allowing their performances to be heard here.

Robert Bremner Publishing presents the works of Cochran in urtext editions: the composer’s definitive text, finely engraved.
